Some thoughts on the Video

So I was not very surprised after watching the video “did you know” on friday. Our world today is moving so fast that it is becoming hard to keep with all the new scientific inventions. We are in moving in a fast pace society and technology is improving every second. There is always something new that science has to offer or some new discovery that has been made.

One thing that really caught my attention in the video was how “a week's worth of New York Time contains more information than what a person was likely to come across in a lifetime in the 18th century”. There is so much going on in the world today and so much information to absorb. So this just goes on to show how much society has changed just in a short amount of time. Well...maybe not that short but still..it has improved significantly. But that brings up the question...has it changed in a good way? In a medical person's perspective, it has helped save millions of lives. But media (technology) wise...it has become complicated in my opinion. It just seems like technology is taking over everything and that one person cannot operate with having some type of device in their hand. So where is technology heading?? How much more is it going to improve? The answers to these question are yet to remain unanswered for now..well cause I don't really now the answer. But I for sure that I will never stop improving.

So this relates to Dr. Alan Kirby's article because he thinks that post modernism is “dead and buried” and “that postmodernism is dead by looking outside the academy at current cultural production”. How can he say that it is “dead”? There is so much going on in the world that it is hard to comprehend everything that goes on. I do not think that post modernism is ever going to end.

Things will keep on improving and views will keep on changing.

Where is technology heading? While, we can’t currently look into the future but we can look at the past and it seems that from that growth things are doubling, quadrupling every year. For example when I was in grade school my parents had pagers and they had to reach a phone that was connected to the wall to communicate to the person that was paging them. Five years latter it wasn't really common to have a cell phone but I knew people that had them and my parents had them, they were mainly used for emergences. Five years latter all people have phones and connect to each other to talk about everything and anytime. A few months latter people discover how cheap and easy it is to use text message and it now and is used more commonly that what the phone was originally made for. Now people prefer to talk to people through text like: e-mail, text message, and blogs. Communication through people has completely changed in every way. Letters are almost non- existent and having person experiences through voice and in person are on the endanger species list. Not only is information constantly changing but so is communication. Its on it death bed.

Wow, Ravneet! Nice formatting on your blog!

Anyway, I think that he means postmodernism is not existent anymore because people often look at situations that aren't the same perspective as postmodernism is. For instance, many people don't focus on what the center has to prove because there is hardly a center in most common scenarios and if there is, the people don't focus on the center and believe what he/she wants to believe.

I agree about what you said about technology. It is improving and become more and more operated by society. Most professions in the future will probably have to revolve around technology since we are using technology every day. I mean, we handle everything via internet, cellphones, television, etc. for different reasons.

    Good blog :)
